It has a dark appearance to give undivided focus on the picture you are editing. You can get also get the latest release from the Darktable Github releases page. RawTherapee’s interface, however, is similar to other photo-editing software. The best place to download it is the project website.

RT/DT seemed a lot more complex to me than LR. Rawtherapee is another app in the same category. Simply selecting a Fuji profile, using a few of the basic sliders (highlights/shadows) and I'm pretty close to where I want to be. If youre looking to learn more complicated software without having to rent it while you do, theres Darktable. Unfortunately, detail (and looking at a picture at 100%) is not the only thing that counts and I got the impression that it's a lot easier to get the wanted results in Lightroom. Lightroom looks more like a bunch of artifacts with a tendency to go to the "worms" (I'm using the high detail sharpening method but they are still there), while RawTherapee showed so much more detail! The same was true for DarkTable (they use the same demosaicing?). I opened a picture with lots of rocks, gravel and grass in RawTherapee and was surprised at how much better it looked detail-wise compared to Lightroom. Incidentally, I had a quick go at RawTherapee and DarkTable this week as well, and came to the same conclusion as you thxbb12.
